Equine Kinesiology Taping to Decrease Muscle Fatigue

Did you know that using kinesiology tape on your horse can reduce muscle fatigue?

Tape is great for back-to-back competitions, multiple-day competitions, and training.

Horses that would benefit from kinesiology taping for muscle fatigue:

  • A horse that is getting back into work

  • An older horse that needs additional muscle support

  • Any horse is high demand competition

  • Young horses being introduced to work

They can all benefit.

This randomized controlled cross-sectional study was to investigate the immediate effects of Kinesiology taping of quadriceps on motor performance after muscle fatigued induction.

Results: Peak torque and single-leg hopping distance were significantly increased when kinesiology taping was applied.

Conclusion: We proved that Kinesiology taping is effective in restoring muscle power that had been reduced after muscle fatigue induction. Therefore, we suggest that Kinesiology taping is beneficial for fatigued muscles and that kinesiology taping is an efficient method for reducing muscle fatigue.

In particular, kinesiology tape applied over stretched skin stimulates the cutaneous afferent nerve, engaging α-motor neurons. This improves the performance of the quadriceps after muscle fatigued induction.
